3 Days Murchison Falls Safari
A short, action-packed escape to Uganda’s largest national park, featuring rhino tracking, game drives and a boat cruise to the base of Africa’s most powerful waterfall.
The 3 Days Murchison Falls Safari is a fast-paced introduction to one of Uganda’s most iconic destinations, ideal for travelers with limited time who still want a genuine taste of big-game safari and the country’s most dramatic natural landmark. Uganda is best known internationally for gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, but Murchison Falls, where the entire Victoria Nile is forced through a gorge barely seven meters wide, draws travelers for an entirely different kind of spectacle.
Murchison Falls National Park covers roughly 3,840 square kilometers of savanna grassland in northwestern Uganda, split by the Victoria Nile as it winds toward the falls. First protected as a game reserve in 1926 and later gazetted as a national park in 1952, it is Uganda’s largest national park and home to Nile crocodiles, lions, elephants and over 450 recorded bird species. This itinerary combines a game drive through the park’s open plains with a boat cruise along the Nile and a visit to the top of the falls themselves, one of the most powerful waterfalls anywhere in the world.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park, Rhino Tracking, Top of the Falls
Your driver-guide will collect you from your hotel at around 7:00 a.m. and brief you on the days ahead before setting off on the roughly six-hour drive to Murchison Falls National Park. En route, you will stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a guided rhino tracking walk, one of the few places in Uganda to see the southern white rhino on foot, before continuing on to a roadside lunch stop.
As you enter the park, keep an eye out for baboons and warthogs along the roadside. Your first stop inside the park is the top viewing point of Murchison Falls, where the Nile is compressed into a gorge barely seven meters wide before thundering 43 meters down, a sight, and sound, that reaches you well before you arrive at the viewpoint. From here, you will continue to your lodge to check in and settle in for dinner and an overnight stay.
Accommodation: Parkside Safari Lodge (Budget), Pakuba Safari Lodge (Mid-range), or Twiga Safari Lodge (Luxury)
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 2: Morning Game Drive, Boat Cruise
After an early breakfast at 6:30 a.m., your driver-guide will take you into the park for a morning game drive. Expect strong chances of spotting lions, buffalo, giraffe, waterbuck and various antelope species, along with plenty for keen birders to look out for. Return to the lodge afterward to freshen up and relax before lunch.
In the afternoon, head out on a boat cruise along the Nile, one of the best ways to see Nile crocodiles, hippos, buffalo and elephants gathering to drink at the water’s edge. The cruise brings you close to the base of the falls, offering a dramatically different perspective from the top viewpoint you visited the day before. Depending on timing, you may enjoy a further short game drive on the return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
